Harley Davidson Bikes And Their History
The first Harley Davidson motorcycle was designed in 1901 by William S. Harley and with the help of his friends Arthur and Walter Davidson they introduced the first Harley Davidson motorcycle in 1903. It was originally designed with a regular bicycle and an engine which was 7.07 cubic inches and 4 inches flywheel. However, due to the small engine it necessary to peddle up the hills in Milwaukee while the engine was running.
Their next attempt had a larger engine 24.74 cubic inches and 9.75 inches flywheels. By using an advanced loop frame the Harley Davidson was able to move from the motorized bicycle category and aided in the design of what modern motorcycles now contain. This new version came in 4th place in a motorcycle race in Milwaukee at State Fair Park on September 08, 1904.
In January of 1905 Harley Davidson engines were offered to the do-it-yourself after advertisements were placed in a trade journal.
Approximately 50 Harley were produced in 1905. However, in 1907 the production increased to 150. It was in September of 1907 when the company officially incorporated and began selling cycles to the police departments.
Harley Davidson motorcycles is one of two motorcycle companies that made it through the Great Depression.
